Charles W. DeArmitt Jr.
Charles W. DeArmitt Jr. 89, of Pleasant Gap, passed away, Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Centre Crest in Bellefonte.
He was born January 3, 1929, at Mingoville, Walker Township, Centre County; a son of the late Charles W. and Marion Z. Albright DeArmitt.
In 1954, he married Janet L. Corrigan who preceded him in death in 2002.
Charles graduated from Bellefonte High School in 1948, where he was part of the Baseball team.
Mr. DeArmitt served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, from 1950 to 1952.
Early in life he worked at White Rock Quarry, delivered milk for the former Pleasant Gap Milk Company, and worked at the Block Plant at Pleasant Gap. He then went to work for at Cerro Metals at Bellefonte, retiring in 1995 as a lead inspector, having worked there for forty years.
His memberships included St. Mark Lutheran Church in Pleasant Gap, a fifty plus year member of the American Legion at Pleasant Gap, having joined the Legion in 1952 upon returning from Korea.
A gifted Baseball player, Charles played in the Centre County League, for the Pleasant Gap Peppers. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, playing cards, going to Atlantic City, and playing pool. While working at Cerro, he was active in their golfing and bowling leagues.
Surviving Mr. DeArmitt are two daughters, Judith A. Furfaro (Darrell) of Bellefonte and Laurie A. Wetzel (Dave) of Orviston; two sons, Michael A. DeArmitt (Sandra) of Julian and Jeffery A. DeArmitt of Pleasant Gap; ten grandchildren, and his “adopted family” Nadine’s children and grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his companion of seven years, Nadine Ross, one sister, Evelyn Neff and a brother Donald L. DeArmitt.
Honoring his wishes all services will be private at the convenience of the family.
