Obituary for Dorlin Waldo Hay

Dorlin Waldo  Hay
Dorlin Waldo Hay of Bellefonte, most recently of Foxdale Village, left his earthy family to join his heavenly family on January 2, 2018. He was born June 4, 1926, on the family farm near Berlin to Robert W. and Lottie Mankamyer (May) Hay who preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Berlin-Brothersvalley H. S. class of 1944. He enlisted in the navy and served until 1947. In 44-45, he was an armed guard anti-aircraft gunner aboard the S. S. Vera Cruz transporting fuel from the Caribbean and Panama to the fleet ships in the Asiatic/Pacific Theater.

On June 20, 1953 he married Norma Marie Benson who survives. He is survived by three children: Brian (Barbara) Hay, Peshtigo, WI and their children Derek (Sara Kronke) Hay and Andrea Hay; Brenda Hay, of Bellefonte, PA; Arlene (Steven) Trevitz, Mercersburg, PA and their children, Daniel (Elizabeth) Trevitz, Vanessa (Jordan) Travis, and Hanna Trevitz. He is also survived by great grandchildren: Ethan, Sophia, Leland Travis and Charles & Izabella Trevitz. He was preceded in death by siblings: William, Sadie, Walter, Harry and Gorden Hay and Beatrice Waltz and two grandsons, Jonathon and Benjamin Hay.

He graduated in Animal Husbandry from Penn State in 1952. He was in Block and Bridle Club, livestock judging team, show manager of Little International 1952, and Coaly Society. He worked at the Ag Hill Dining Room and at the cattle barns during college. He was then employed at Hillcrest Farms, Chester, WV, PS Ag Extension in Beaver Co, PA Hereford Breeders Assn and Cattle Manager at Green Cove Farm, Avella. For most of his career he was the District Director for the State of PA ASCS (USDA), 1956-1987.

He and his family farmed part time and raised cattle in Bedford Co from 1958-1998. He was a member of Bedford Co CEF Board, a Sunday school teacher and a 4-H Club leader. He was a member of Veterans, Agricultural, cattlemen’s, sports, RMEF, Berlin Area Historical Society and other organizations. He helped form the Bedford Cattlemen’s Association. He enjoyed hunting in PA and the Rocky Mountains. He was a blood donor of over 14 gallons.

He knew Jesus as his savior and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Bellefonte. Interment will be in the Centre County Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of the family. The family wishes to thank the many medical professionals and their related employees in Centre County for their professional and loving care.
