Obituary for John L. "Jack" Woika

John L. "Jack" Woika
December 14, 2017 – John (Jack) Leonard Woika, age 85, passed away on December 14, 2017. John was born in DuBois, PA to Chester and Lottie Woika.

A graduate of Sandy Township High School, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Penn State and a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. He started his professional career at RCA in Camden, NJ, then he accepted a position at HRB Singer in State College, where he worked for 36 years. After retirement, he worked as an event usher at the BJC for the next 17 years.

Jack enjoyed being outdoors with activities that included biking, fishing, landscaping, and walking. He was an avid photographer and painter. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren (Belinda, Billy, Christopher, Benjamin, Nicholas, Savanna, Sheridan, Isabelle, Jacob, and John), and was very proud of all of them. One of his favorite activities was sharing his love of fishing with his grandchildren, patiently teaching them the basics of “fishing, not catching”.

He is survived by his wife Norma of 63 years; siblings Joanne Deardorff of Harrisburg, Pat Butler of Rockton, Kay Weagraff of Saegertown, and Thomas Woika of DuBois; and children Michael and wife Mary Jean of Coral Springs, FL, Dale and wife Shirley of State College, and Nancy (Marion) wife of Vince of North Canton, OH.

A memorial celebration is planned for Sunday, December 17, at 3:00 at the Park Forest United Methodist Church, located at 1833 Park Forest Avenue.
