Obituary for William Decker

William S. Decker, 98, of State College, died October 20, 2017 at his home at Juniper Village.

He was born on February 3, 1919 in Evansville, Indiana and later moved to Davenport, Iowa. He was the son of the late Herman and Flora Decker. In 1949 he married Marguerite Mathias of Philadelphia who preceded him in death. His brother Richard D. Decker also preceded him in death.

Mr. Decker was a graduate of the University of Iowa with B.S. and M.A. degrees in Marketing and Advertising. He completed additional graduate studies at Columbia University in New York City. He was an Instructor at the University of Connecticut and in the Graduate School of Business at Columbia. He Joined Penn State in 1950 as an instructor in the College of Liberal Arts Department of Commerce and Finance. He was an original member of the College of Business Administration formed in 1953 where he was a member of the Marketing Department until his retirement in 1982. He also served as Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Students.

William joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in July 1941 and served as a combat and target intelligence officer in North Africa, Italy, and France. He retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve in 1979.

He is survived by two daughters, Patricia L. Decker of Philadelphia and Christine Feidler and his son-in-law Jeffrey Feidler of Wilmington, Delaware. He has two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
