Obituary for Drucilla Conner Weirauch

Drucilla Conner Weirauch passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2017 in the comfort of her State College home. She was surrounded by the love of her close family members at the end. Drucie was born in 1950 in Washington, DC, moving with her family from Fairfax VA to State College in 1958. She had fond memories of her formative years in State College and graduated from State College Area High School in 1968. Her BA in English was granted in 1972 by the Pennsylvania State University, following which she taught at Park Forrest Middle School. Drucie was married to Doug Weirauch in 1977 with whom she had two sons. The family lived in Grantville, OH, Buffalo, NY, and Murrysville, PA returning to State College in 2000.

After working at Denison University, the Carnegie Institute, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, she obtained her MEd in Adult Education from Penn State in 1994. She subsequently joined Penn State’s Institute for the Study of Adult Literacy and Goodling Institute for Research in Family Literacy as a Research Technologist.

While there, she was author or co-author of numerous papers and a book chapter. She received the PAACE outstanding adult educator of the year award in 2015. In retirement she pursued volunteer opportunities as the Jewelry Gallery Curator for the Bellefonte Art Museum and Scraps and Skeins, an organization supporting Strawberry Fields. Throughout she maintained an interest in cooking, gardening, crystal/rock hunting, and hiking. She greatly enjoyed the company for her many friends in State College and elsewhere.

Drucilla is survived by her husband Douglas Weirauch; son Matthew Weirauch and his wife Brooke Crowley of Cincinnati, OH; son Daniel Weirauch and his fiancée Lauren Jones of Arnold, MD; and brother Keith Conner and niece Kalynn Conner of Sunbury, PA.

Burial will be under the direction of the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, State College. Please consider a donation to Scraps and Skeins or the Bellefonte Art Museum in Lieu of flowers.
