Dorthea L. "Dot"  Bedell (Larson)
Dorothea “Dot” Larson Bedell of State College, PA passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on Monday, February 20, 2017. Born in Jamestown, NY, Dot was the daughter of Rudolph and Esther Larson. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her beloved husband Norm Bedell, a still born twin daughter, and a very special grandson, Andrew (Drew) Eilbacher, a 2009 Penn State Grad.

Dot is survived by daughter Cindy Bedell, son-in-law, Guillermo Valenzuela and step granddaughter Catalina Valenzuela; daughter Debbie Eilbacher and son-in-law, Albert Eilbacher, many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Dot graduated from Jamestown High School in 1951 and earned her RN at the University of Rochester, Strong Memorial Hospital, in 1954. She worked briefly in California, Jamestown and Illinois as a RN, however due to military life was unable to continue her nursing career.

She had a life of adventure, traveling extensively across the US, Germany and Bolivia as the wife of a military officer who had a second career in university administration. She and Norm moved to State College where he was an Assistant VP at Penn State for OPP after working at Bowling Green State University and Duke. Dot was a true philanthropist and kind to all she met. She loved to putter in the yard, share her stories, spend time with her family as a loving mother and grandmother, and was an accomplished scrabble whiz. She will be greatly missed.

Friends will be received from 2:00 to 3:00 p. m. Sunday, February 26, 2017, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA . The memorial service will follow at 3:00 pm
Burial will be at the convenience of the in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Lakewood, NY.

In lieu of flowers contributions in her memory may be made to, Strong Memorial Hospital, 601 Elmwood Ave. Rochester, NY 14642 or to the Pennsylvania State University Office of the Physical Plant Beautification Fund,
